Whether it’s a traditional or Online Elementary School, we all know getting kids ready for school can be a daunting task for all parents. There’s shopping for clothes & supplies, errands to run, nerves to pray for, and just a overwhelming list of things you want to get done before summer comes to an end! This is my second year sending a kid to school full time and honestly it hasn’t gotten easier, maybe even harder but I’ve rounded up a few things I do to make sure the transition for back-to-school goes as smoothly as possible!
Talk about school often
I really start talking about school once we are about a month out from starting. I like to phase them back in to the idea of routine, schedules, not snacking all day, etc! I think it helps to remind them what it means to be back in school and have that structure all while reminding them the fun parts about school like friends, events and all the things they thrive on.
Get fresh hair cuts
This year Smart Style by Regis got my babes back-to-school ready! Nothing says back-to-school prep like a fresh new cut! We recently went into Wal-Mart because #duh we go there at least once a week and decided to try out Smart Style salon while we did the rest of of Saturday errands! It is a full service salon inside Wal-Mart. They offer anything from mens, womens and kids cuts, to colors, waxing and a full selection of high end products! I was honestly very impressed with the level of knowledge and professionalism we received while there! They were so great with all 3 of my babes! The employees at Smart Style were gentle, kind and made the hair cut process so enjoyable! I was nervous simply for the fact that we usually go to “kid” salons and this was our first experience in regular chairs. It went soo smoothly and no one had a meltdown (I’m talking about Huxxy) Greleigh got a wash treatment, we put long layers that framed her face and trimmed off the dead ends. I’m pretty sure she almost fell asleep when they were blow drying her hair! #shegetsthatfromme
The boys got the typical “boy” hair cut because I don’t understand all the number blade things, but the hair stylists, who might have utilized one of the best Professional Hairdressing Scissors, sure did. I took them pictures of the boys style I wanted and they delivered! Seriously, there might not be anything cuter than a fresh haircut! They leave feeling like a new kid and what could be better than feeling your best self for the start of a new school year! It was just so convenient having it all at Wal-Mart and not having to make another stop in our already busy day!
Buy school supplies through the school
So I dropped the ball on this one this year and I’m pretty annoyed at myself. If your school offers the supply bundles, buy them. Don’t look back. Enjoy picking up your supplies from your school and not having to step foot inside a store to fight off all the other mamas for the last wide ruled notebook #ugh
Let them help you pick school clothes
If there is one thing I have learned over the years it’s that a happy kid is a….happy kid! Which means if they are happy in leggings and a t-shirt everyday then for the love, let them wear that. I have to say it’s taken a lot of fights and tears to get here but for example…Greleigh HATES rompers I mean HATES them! They are literally my favorite thing of all time for her to wear. I was crushed when she told me she truly didn’t like them so this summer we went through her closet and got rid of all but one because she said “I’ll keep one for you mama because I know you like them” so this year I only bought her things that I knew she would love and not fight me to wear!
Pray
School time is seriously hard on my mama heart. I truly love summer and all that it brings and the first week of school is always SO hard on me! This year we moved schools so it brought an entire different level of anxiety, fear and of course excitement! I pray over each of my kids, their teachers, their school and most importantly their faith! I pray that they always know their worth, know that they are loved by their Savior and that no matter the seasons we go through that they are always my biggest blessing!
